Amsterdam, Netherlands—UPF co-sponsored a “Peace Road” event to commemorate the UN International Day of Peace.

Together with representatives of the Church of Scientology, UPF held an event on September 26, 2021, that started with a conference in the Scientology Chapel and continued with a “Peace Road” walk to the newly opened Dutch Holocaust Memorial of Names.

The speakers at the conference were:

  • Ari van Buuren, a Christian minister;
  • Ineke Hilhorst, a TV producer;
  • Wim Koetsier, the secretary general of UPF-Netherlands.

Mr. Koetsier spoke about the “Peace Road” vision.

Dr. Hilhorst highlighted the current brutal reality of Afghanistan, giving as an example the grave situation of a young female student.

Rev. van Buuren, as a member of the global interfaith network United Religions Initiative (URI), emphasized the sense of togetherness with the phrase “URI—you are I.”

From there, an interfaith and intergenerational group of more than 40 people walked prayerfully to the Dutch Holocaust Memorial of Names, which recently was opened by King Willem-Alexander. After a moment of meditation, each participant offered flowers with new resolve for a peaceful world.

This wall monument is an initiative of a Holocaust survivor. His wife explained their story, saying it took them 15 years to realize this monument. The name of each of the 102,000 Dutch victims of the Holocaust is engraved onto a brick.

After making some photographs, the participants continued on to the UPF Peace Embassy to enjoy high tea.
