The issue we are addressing is without a doubt of great importance, especially taking into account the extraordinarily dramatic and painful developments in many part of the world, which as such are generating substantial victims of different ages, sexes, ethnicities, beliefs and cultures, or places where they come from.

My position was as Anglican archbishop of Armagh, which means I was the Anglican primate for the whole of Ireland, North and South, and that period of 22 years before I retired coincided with what we call the troubles, the war in Ireland.

Tom [Brake], Dr Walsh, very distinguished ladies and gentlemen and friends, I am very sorry that I have to leave soon after my speech or just a few words, but I want to say thank you to the UPF, because for many, many years we have been working for peace, not only in the middle east, and I have had the pleasure of working with some of the friends here in Jerusalem, as well as on the Korean peninsula.

Let me introduce myself: I am a woman, white, Czech, catholic, European, mother, wife, teacher, politician, activist…

I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers of this imposing inter-parliamentary peacemaking action — the Universal Peace Federation, which was able to involve such qualified personalities for the common good. This significant event brought together people caring, principled, and open to dialogue.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen! Participants of this conference! I heartily greet you on behalf of the national peacemaking organization of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian Fund of Peace and the citizens of our country.

As days go by we in the Middle East see how the war monster is destroying our present - by terror and death and horror, our past - by destroying the precious artworks, temples and sculptures, and our future - by luring our children into the dark hole of hatred and fanaticism.
