Lisbon, Portugal—The leader of UPF-Portugal attended a meeting with the executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries.

Sérgio Vieira, the president of UPF-Portugal, who is a member of the board and the vice president of the International Platform of Civil Society Lusophone Diaspora (PISCDIL), was present at a courtesy meeting with H.E. Maria do Carmo Silveira, the executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP).

The meeting, held at CPLP headquarters on August 28, 2018, was requested by Professor Alberto Araújo, the president of PISCDIL and a UPF Ambassador for Peace, to discuss the creation of a course to expand Portuguese teaching in all nine CPLP nations. This course is seen as a way to create greater equality of opportunities, especially for young people as future leaders, and is linked to PISCDIL’s Leadership with Values project, which H.E. Silveira very much appreciated and welcomed.

During the meeting, the UPF representatives gave H.E. Silveira a copy of UPF founder Dr. Sun Myung Moon’s autobiography, a UPF brochure, and another brochure about the VIP speakers from the Latin America Summit which UPF held in São Paulo, Brazil, from August 2 to 5, 2018.

H.E. Silveira, who is also a former prime minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, recalled being invited to the February 2018 UPF International Leadership Conference in Seoul, Korea, by Marta Maria Carvalho Rodrigues, the president of the Portuguese chapter of Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP). H.E. Silveira said she is very interested in the UPF peace movement.
