On 16 May, 2025, in celebration of the International Day of Families, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF-Albania), collaborating with the Shkodër Regional Peace Council, held an award-giving ceremony in the city of Shkodër. The event was held near the Cathedral of St. Stephen in the Cardinal Mikel Koliqi Hall.
Participants included representatives of various institutions and civil companies, young people and habitants of residential homes. There were around one hundred and sixty guests present. Members of the residential homes gave their personal experiences with words that touched everyone. They all conveyed the message that the care they received gave them a sense of belonging and that they were helped to feel part of a family.
In this special ceremony the Shkodër branch of the humanitarian organisation “Project Hope” was awarded the Medal of Gratitude. The association, founded in 1995, has, for decades, provided support for orphans and people with disabilities, serving with dedication, love and dignity. The Medal was presented by Mr. Luigj Mila with these words:
“In appreciation of their contribution and continued dedication to protecting the dignity of persons with disabilities and without family support, providing humane, quality and ethical services that inspire and raise social service standards".
