Ambassador for Peace Awards were presented to ten dignitaries honoured for special contributions to the Albanian immigrant community and minorities in Greece.

On the initiative of the Saranda Regional Peace Council in Albania, on 14th April 2024, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) organised its second event in Athens on the theme "Migration - the human resource that multiplies peace".  The event was held in one of the public halls of Athens’s “Academy 50”.  Attending were about 140 Ambassadors for Peace, persons holding senior positions, several honourees, candidates for the title of Ambassador for Peace, and other guests.

The participants were the Albanian Deputy Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Hon. Artemisa Malo; Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Greece, Her Excellency Ms. Luela Hajdaraga; Chair of UPF Albania, Dr. Eva Çipi, and Chairperson of the Tirana Peace Council, Mr. Defrim Methasani, who was also the moderator of the event.  The purpose of this activity was to evaluate the contributions, capacities and human resources of Albanian immigration to Greece and how this great potential can be supported, encouraged and transformed into amplifiers of peace, security, cooperation between peoples and mutual development.  The event brought some very good emotions, but also nostalgia and longing.  There were wonderful artistic performances by the Laban Song Ensemble "Tears of Immigration" and the dance group "Butrinti" of Finiq Municipality.

In addition to messages from invited dignitaries and senior members of UPF, participants were also addressed by the Chairman of the Saranda Regional Peace Council, Mr. Thoma Nika; its Vice-Chairman, Mr. Hamdi Pervizi, and coordinator of the Athens branch, Mr. Anastas Murati.  The Secretary General of UPF, Mr. Gani Rroshi, explained in detail the history, work and activities of the organisation since its founding.  The highlight of the event was the ceremony presenting the Ambassador for Peace Award to ten dignitaries honoured for special contributions to the Albanian immigrant community and minorities in Greece.

The event ended with the promotion of the book “The Incomparable” by the author Mr. Thoma Nika, a well-known journalist.  The book depicts one hundred and one profiles and stories of different persons.  After a short presentation on the motive and purpose of this venture by the author himself, Mr. Nika stressed the importance and values of the book.  He thanked Mr. Josif Papagoni, the author of the book's introduction, and Mr. Koço Costa, his editor.  A special recognition went to the Saranda Peace Council and the organisers of the event, particularly to Mr. Defrim Methasani who made everyone feel appreciated and grateful for being a part of this worthwhile event.
