On December 10, 2019, the Asia-Pacific First Ladies Summit was launched in Palau, located in the southern Pacific Ocean. On the occasion of the World Summit 2020, current and former first ladies among others gathered for the International Assembly of First Ladies for Peace hosted by the Women’s Federation for World Peace, a sister organization of UPF.
Opening Remarks were given by Prof. Yeon Ah Moon, chair, UPF Korea and Ms. Julia Moon, president of WFWP and director of Universal Ballet. Special Addresses were delivered by Madame Debbie Remengesau, first lady, Palau, and Madame Ingrid Aingimea, first lady, Nauru.
Speakers and attendees from Europe and Middle East included Madame Fionnuala Kenny, wife of the former prime minister, Ireland; Dr. Svjetlana Jovic, Civil Affairs office, UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL); Dr. Celine Guerin, neuroscientist and trauma therapist, Switzerland; Madame Flutura Ahmeti, wife of former prime minister, Albania; and Madame Medine Hanku, wife of former President, Albania.
The second session included the Ceremonial signing of the Resolution for the Establishment of IAFLP by the participants. After a presentation of gifts, congratulatory addresses were given by H.E. Anneli Tuulikki Jaatteenmaki, former prime minister, Finland, and H.E. Dalia Itzik, former president, Israel.
