Backgrounder:
Proposed in February 1981 by the founder of the Universal Peace Federation, the International Peace Highway project called for the creation of a high-speed highway that would connect China, Korea and Japan, which anticipated the idea of increasing transport and economic interconnection in East Asia and Eurasia.
Currently, within the framework of the International Peace Highway project, projects of international transport corridors in various regions of the world, including Russia and Eurasia, are being discussed. They also include Arctic transport routes, including the modernization and use of the Northern Sea Route, which will become a reliable and shortest route connecting the countries of East Asia and Europe.
