At the invitation of the President of “Casa da Índia” (House of Índia), to attend the Fifth Edition of the "Festival Gandhi", the Universal Peace Federation of Portugal was represented by Sérgio Vieira, its National President. The successful event was organised in collaboration with the Embassy of India in Portugal; several Parish Councils of Lisbon; and the AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migrations, and Asylum).
The festival aimed to promote values of peace, integration, and global citizenship through various activities, including Indian cuisine, traditional attire, workshops, and vibrant performances of Indian music and dance. It attracted nearly 3,500 to 4,000 visitors throughout the day.
The formal opening was attended by distinguished guests, including Hon. Puneet Roy Kundal, the new Ambassador of India in Portugal, and Dr. Fernando Braamcamp, President of the Parish Council of Areeiro, a suburb in Lisbon. Also present were representatives from the Parish Councils of Arroios and Penha de França, both of them districts of Lisbon.
Through this event UPF was able to make new connections with representatives from other NGOs and public entities. It was also a good opportunity to meet as well some main religious leaders whom the organisation had already cooperated with in similar events. This helped to, yet again, make its mark in its role as a Culture of Peace. UPF used this occasion to also honour some of the participants with the Ambassador for Peace Award.
