Tirana, Albania—UPF-Albania is proud to announce that UPF Local Peace Councils have been established in 58 of the nation’s 61 municipalities.
Starting in 2017, UPF representatives have visited every city in the country. With the help and support of the city administration and sometimes the personal support and presence of the mayor and local Ambassadors for Peace, Local Peace Councils have been founded in 58 municipalities as of the beginning of 2019.
In 2018 alone, 45 inaugural events for Local Peace Councils were held. Sometimes two or even three events were held in a day.
There were some astounding cases in which citizens of a city, having heard what UPF was doing in other locations, invited UPF to establish a branch in their city. UPF representatives went out to the far corners of Albania, even to the remotest cities.
One of the first steps after creating a Local Peace Council is enlarging the branch by naming local dignitaries as Ambassadors for Peace. Another important step is inviting the council’s chair and vice chairs to a seminar in the UPF Peace Principles. Three such seminars were held in 2018. The seminar culminates in an International Peace Blessing ceremony, which the local Ambassadors for Peace and their spouse attend as a couple.
In total, the number of Ambassadors for Peace in Albania has increased to about 1,100, with more than 5,400 people attending our events.
