Parliamentarians play a vital role in safeguarding democratic institutions, upholding the rule of law, and promoting peace, stability, and human dignity. In a time of regional and global challenges - ranging from conflict and social polarization to climate change and governance issues - constructive parliamentary cooperation is more essential than ever.
The International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) provides a confidential, non-partisan forum where current and former legislators can exchange experience, insight, and practical approaches to peacebuilding and sustainable development.

Purpose and Framework
Established in 2016 by more than 150 parliamentarians from over 40 nations, IAPP is part of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) network, active in more than 190 countries and holding consultative status with the United Nations.
Through IAPP, parliamentarians have the opportunity to:
- Exchange perspectives on peacebuilding, reconciliation, and development
- Collaborate in thematic and regional working groups
- Access a global network of legislators, policymakers, and civil society leaders
- Support initiatives aligned with UN principles and international law
Areas of Engagement
Within the Europe & Middle East region, IAPP focuses on:
- Peacebuilding and conflict prevention
- Interreligious and intercultural dialogue
- Strengthening democracy, rule of law, and ethical leadership
- Addressing corruption and promoting accountability
- Education for peace and social cohesion
Working Groups – Focused Action for Peace
Working groups provide a practical, action-oriented space for parliamentarians to collaborate on specific regional or thematic issues.
Each group addresses challenges such as peacebuilding, conflict prevention, democracy and good governance, anti-corruption, and youth engagement.
Members receive concise briefings, contribute to reports and policy recommendations, and engage with peers from across Europe, the Middle East, and globally.
Participation is flexible and confidential, designed to respect political sensitivities while maximizing the impact of collective expertise.
Through these groups, parliamentarians translate dialogue into tangible initiatives that benefit both their constituencies and the broader international community.
